Greenwich Odeum to renovate in RI Real Estate. The Odeum is located front and center on Main Street in East Greenwich around the corner from the East Greenwich town hall. First on the agenda, I am told, is to make all the seat covers less flammable and have them recovered. This has been a long road to re-opening and with fire laws and compliance with all, it was very questionable whether or not the Odeum would re-open and as a non-profit. Now both of these items seem likely.
For one, the fire regulations by the fire department have been relaxed a bit and they are working closely with the Odeum staff to have a workable solution. Secondly, the return to non-profit status is in the works again. The East Greenwich Town Council has extended its deadline for the re-opening of the Odeum until 3/30/2012.
For all of you who are unfamiliar with the Odeum’s past, it has been a great venue for music groups and theater. Since 2007 it has been closed due to not being able to meet the very strict fire codes that were put on businesses after the Station Night Club fire. This is all about to change!
I have enjoyed many a musical group or theater production with friends at the Odeum in the past and long with other locals to have this kind of venue operational and near to us geographically. Update: Odeum is operational but needs financial support…I hope it finds the right benefactor!
